Criteria

  1. Exact instrumentation required, piano if called for
  2. Student or ensemble must play a selection from the required list to qualify—if UIL list, must use "Grade 1" (most difficult) and band students may use "Grade 2" (second-most difficult). Student or ensemble must also play from the required list at the State Solo & Ensemble Festival—same selection or another
  3. Student or ensemble must receive a Distinguished rating at the district level

Procedures

  • District-level adjudicator will complete information box on the adjudication form for all Distinguished-rated solos or ensembles at the time of the performance of the soloist or ensemble
  • Director will copy all adjudication forms for his/her records
  • Director will mail copy of forms for solos that meet the above three criteria with $13 per solo and $10 per ensemble, plus $3 per ensemble member to KMEA, PO Box 1058, Richmond, KY 40476-1058
  • KMEA will send a list of paid events to the State Solo and Ensemble Festival Manager, authorizing him/her to schedule the events
