Dear Music Educator,

The Kentucky All-State Children's Chorus of fifth and sixth grade students will perform as part of the Kentucky Music Educators Association In-Service/Professional Development Conference in Louisville held February 7-10, 2007.  This chorus will perform on Thursday evening, the 8th of February.

Sally K. Albrecht

Our Guest Conductor

Sally K. Albrecht is the Director of School Choral and Classroom Publications for Alfred Publishing. She is a popular choral conductor, composer, and clinician, especially known for her work with choral movement. Sally has produced seven choral movement videos and is the author of two books on the subject, Choral Music in Motion, Volumes 1 and 2.

An annual recipient of the ASCAP Special Music Award since 1987, Sally has over 275 popular choral publications in print, more than twenty-five larger elementary songbooks and musicals, and three sacred cantatas. Her composition We Are the Children was selected to open one of the MENC “World’s Largest Concerts.” Sally has directed and staged the half-time show singers performing during two Florida Citrus Bowls. She also has had the honor of conducting the 2003 National Middle School Choir performing at Lincoln Center, the 2004 National Children’s Choir performing at Carnegie Hall and, in 2006, two honor choirs performing at The Kennedy Center. She recently compiled and edited Alfred’s popular sourcebook The Choral Warm-Up Collection, featuring 167 choral warm-ups contributed by 51 music educators.

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, Sally received a B.A. Degree from Rollins College with a double major in Music and Theater. From there she moved to the University of Miami, where she received both an M.A. in Drama and an M.M. in Accompanying. She has worked with literally thousands of teachers and students through choral honors and all-state festivals, conventions, and workshops in over 40 states, Canada, Singapore, and Australia.

Sally and her husband, composer/arranger Jay Althouse, currently enjoy living in North Carolina.

Audition Directions

Failure to follow these directions will result in the

audition tape or CD being removed from the process.

  1. Each student must audition on a NEW tape or CD accompanied by a $5.00 audition fee that is included in one check per school.
  2. Label each tape or CD with school name and student name.
  3. The music teacher must conduct auditions. Please be selective by taping and sending only your best singers.  Please do not waste the time of the audition committee by sending in tapes you would not want to hear!
  4. Atmosphere – Please avoid a noisy setting.
  5. After the audition has begun, no talking on the tape except for selection identification. Talking to students will nullify the audition.  You can teach the patterns before the recording. There is no rule stating you cannot prepare your students!
  6. Teachers may not play or sing the student's part.  This will also result in disqualification.  Piano must not assist student on prepared solo.
  7. Follow taping directions for melodic and harmonic patterns in the audition procedures.
  8. Prepared solo comes AFTER the melodic and harmonic patterns.  Remember – solo must be performed as written:  solo voice with piano accompaniment (when the voices divide the student should sing Part I for the audition).
  9. After completing the audition, please listen to the tape or CD to make certain the audition has been recorded.
